Where am I from?
I was born in Ontario, but moved to Ucluelet when I was 11 years old. I have spent the majority of my adult life between Ucluelet and Victoria.
What is my education?
After attending high school in Ucluelet I attended the University of Victoria, obtaining my Bachelors of Science degree in 2014. I am currently enrolled in the Post-Degree Professional Program for Secondary Education at the University of Victoria.
How did I come to be involved in the PDP Program?
I have always been passionate about marine life, and was fortunate to be able to develop these passions by working at the Ucluelet Aquarium shortly after moving to town. From a young age I was immersed in environmental education with locals, school groups, and tourists from all around the world. After finishing my degree I returned to Ucluelet to work with the local Salmon Hatchery. My 4 years with the hatchery reignited and fed my passion for education, to the point where I decided to pursue a career as an educator.
What are my hopes during the PDPP?
I hope to integrate my experiences into a classroom-based teaching practice and to form meaningful connections with my peers, educators, and learners.
I look forward to seeing how both indigenous perspectives and new technologies are being integrated into schools and to investigating ways to meaningfully promote multiple types of literacy.
What is my teaching philosophy?
I believe it is an educator’s role to facilitate learning for all individuals by providing a safe, stimulating educational environment, utilizing multiple methods on instruction and demonstration to account for a range of different learning habits.
